Shot 1:

Software: After Effects

Role: Red One footage. Consultations with director resulted in saturated look. Matted / day for night color on ground layer. Sky elements are: gradients with noise, clouds isolated from plates, moon from plate with blur & color, stars from plate. Tracked and composited in After Effects.

 

Shot 2:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: Sony EX3 footage. Mirror insert shot was 16x9 - not the same aspect the green covered mirror itself - resulting in not enough stall above the subject or body below him. Rotoscoped subject out of shot and broke down stall elements in Photoshop. Rebuilt stall in After Effects. Added edge glare and dirt to emphasize mirror surface. Keyed / rotoscoped a matte into BG plate and comped mirror insert shot in After Effects.

 

Shot 3:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: Red One footage. Matte / color on ground layer. Create tree top element to add emphasis and blend. Aurora element provided, glow added. Aurora element comped into create sky with other elements: gradients with noise, clouds isolated from plates, stars from plate. Soft reflection of Aurora in snow created from original Aurora element using directional blur, opacity adjustments, and linear dodge.

 

Shot 4:

Software: Boujou, After Effects

Role: Camera unknown. 3D camera solve in Boujou, data imported into After Effects. Sunbeams / ambience created by laying in white solids of varying opacity and mask shapes in 3D space.

 

Shot 5:

Software: After Effects, Sapphire plugins

Role: Sony F3 footage. BG plate provided. Key and color subject (stylized). DOF blur and stylized glow on BG. Electric arc from hands created in After Effects using Sapphire Zap. Orb created as pre comp using a combination of plugins and masked solids in After Effects. Fingers rotoscoped, orb and lightning comped underneath. Lens flares and other light effects created atop orb in After Effects.

 

Shot 6:

Software: After Effects

Role: Panasonic HVX footage. Comped in real muzzle flashes elements. Added glow to muzzle flashes, and strobe flashes to the overall scene for emphasis. Comped in footage of dust particles atop.

 

Shot 7:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: 35mm footage. Corrected overall color. BG plate created from frames where subject wasn't in the shot. Comped in real muzzle flash from library for shotgun blast. Painted main pieces of head explosion in Photoshop, comped / animated in After Effects. Comped in particle bursts and gun / blood smoke in After Effects.

 

Shot 8:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: Camera unknown. Painted out wire in Photoshop. Tracked and comped and added grain to layer in After Effects.

 

Shot 9:

Software: After Effects

Role: Red One footage. Tracked camera jiggle. Comped in and adjusted snow plate, adjusting color and DOF blur. Attached snow plate to track. Rotoscoped actors, and trees. Adjusted overall color.

 

Shot 10:

Software: Monet, After Effects

Role: Camera unknown. Planar tracked, inserted footage in Monet. Adjusted gamma and added glare in After Effects.

 

Shot 11:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: Red One footage. Created beaver mouth element from footage (of a beaver from the same film). Created other beaver face elements in Photoshop. Tracked and comped in After Effects.

 

Shot 12:

Software: After Effects, Photoshop

Role: Panasonic HVX footage. Painted new license plate in Photoshop, matching lighting to source. Tracked and comped over original in After Effects.
